I just discovered Pinterest! Yes, I know I am a little late to that game as I have been hearing about it for the past year but got so mad when I tried to sign up last spring and it converted my Facebook to the Timeline setup... So I was anti Pinterest for awhile. But after giving my grudge a reasonable amount of time to work itself out, I gave it another try the other day! Who knew I was a closeted Do It Yourselfer?? I certainly didn't! Now that J and I officially live together, I am all about homeying up the place to make it feel less sparse bachelor pad and more happy, comfortable home for 2. I have discovered so many new ideas, and really, who knew you could do so much with mason jars and burlap!?!?! I am officially addicted! My first project was spray painting an ugly gold lamp that was residing in our spare room... I thought to myself..."self, how much worse can it look if I totally botch this?" When the answer was that anything would be an improvement I took myself to Lowes and purchased sand paper, primer and black paint in Satin and moseyed on home to do battle with that hunk of metal that calls itself a lamp (HA!) So I took the lamp out to

spot in the side yard, taped up the electrical areas, placed the lamp on some plastic bags and went to town! First, I sanded the lamp since there was left over paint all over it from some long distant project... I then washed it down with damp paper towels and let it dry.

Waiting for the primer to dry |
Once dry, I shook, shook and shook the spray paint bottle, this was not a bad arm work out --although I probably looked like a crazy person doing my spray bottle dance in view of the neighbors and all passing cars... I started with the white primer, applying a generous coat all the way around. I don't have the patience for multiple light coats! I let this dry for the recommended 1/2 hour minimum before the fun began! The black spray paint!! Again, I did my little shake it work-out in the yard and this time I did 2 coats, not as heavy as the primer, waiting 30 minutes between rounds. AND...Lamp: 0 Me: 5 points! I count this project as a win! I will say that some spots on the base look slightly textured and I'm not sure why.. but overall, a vast improvement! Now I just need a shade!
